Beginnings

Nigel Parker BSc(Hons) Ost
My Osteopathic journey began way back in 1991 when a very serious road traffic accident left me incapacitated and needing a lengthy rehabilitation. At 21 I found myself needing to learn to walk again. I become focused on the processes involved in my recovery, which is where a career in something I needed most myself began!

Stourbridge News 2008

The physiotherapy I received when in Oswestry Spinal Injuries Unit was exemplary, but once back at home, I realised I was on my own, so quickly learnt self-help and alternative therapy was the best way to improved health. I underwent a number of treatments, including a course of Rolfing, and a form of bodywork therapy called Reichian Therapy (not to be confused with Reiki) – one of its core objectives is breathing and its importance with overall health.

Aspects from both of these disciplines is something I have integrated into my treatments.

Training/Specialisation

Training took a few turns in the eight years needed to finally realise my goal of being a registered Osteopath. Starting with Remedial & Sports Massage, progressing to Manipulative Therapy, and finally a 5 year BSc (Hons) degree at Oxford Brookes University.

Brookes’ School of Osteopathy is one of the most contemporary and forward thinking in the country. My final year’s specialisation was an amalgamation of all my interests, developing a new and previously undocumented technique application. I use this gentle technique extensively to almost totally liberate and ‘un-lock’ long standing areas of tension, helping almost every condition I treat from headaches to IBS to tennis elbow.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS!

From the beginning, Wollaston Osteopathic Clinic we have prided itself on getting the patient better as soon as possible, with the minimum amount of visits - WE DO NOT SIGN YOU UP for lots of visits

Some conditions are acute (sudden) and some are chronic (long standing).

Some people are young, some not so.

Some conditions need just one session only ('I walked in doubled up, and left dancing!'), others need on-going maintenance.

You get where this is going, but generally speaking, new conditions usually respond well (3 treatments) and feel significantly improved.

Your osteopath will go through a case history followed by general and more specific medical questions. Some of the questions may seem somewhat unrelated, for example how long is your commute to work and how do you usually do this, or questions about your diet etc. Osteopaths treat conditions in many ways and a full a picture as possible is needed to be able to treat your condition as effectively and safely as possible.
If an examination is needed, partial undressing may be needed, but not essential and if asked, a patient may keep fully dressed. Even for problems in the upper body, for example shoulders or neck, a full standing examination is often needed as posture can significantly influence the upper body. Shorts, legins or small tops can be worn in the consideration of modesty.
Your examination findings will be discussed, along with the likely underlying factors of your condition. Treatment, as well as likely treatment length will also be talked through.
Post treatment exercises may be given

You can expect a thorough assessment and a tailored treatment plan to address your specific needs.
